BLACKPINK’s Jennie marked Hangeul Day by releasing a new Korean font titled ‘ZEN SERIF’, now available for free download. Her label, ODD ATELIER (OA Entertainment), announced the release on October 8 through its official website and social media channels, explaining that the project reflects Jennie’s passion for promoting the beauty of the Korean alphabet and culture.

OA Entertainment stated, “Jennie, who has introduced Korea to the world through ‘ZEN’ and ‘Seoul City,’ has now established herself as an artist who is both authentically Korean and globally recognized.” The agency added that Jennie has always held deep pride in Korea and its written language, inspired by King Sejong’s original intent to make Hangeul easy for everyone to learn. Through the new font, Jennie hopes to share the elegance and value of Hangeul with fans around the world.

A blend of tradition and innovation

The design concept behind ZEN SERIF is also noteworthy. According to OA Entertainment, “The font minimizes ornamentation to emphasize essence and incorporates smooth curves to soften the overall impression.” The company also revealed that the font daringly combines elements of Western blackletter typography with Korean characters, creating a bold yet refined aesthetic that distinguishes it from conventional Korean fonts.

In addition to its free distribution, OA Entertainment has made the font available on the short-form video editing app ‘Edits’ for Instagram, allowing users worldwide to freely apply ‘ZEN SERIF’ in their content creation.

Beyond entertainment: A digital culture creator

It is rare for a celebrity to design and distribute a typeface, making Jennie’s latest move a remarkable fusion of entertainment branding and digital culture. By choosing Hangeul Day as the launch date, Jennie goes beyond her role as a performer-emerging instead as a creator and contributor to digital cultural content.

With ‘ZEN SERIF,’ Jennie once again bridges artistry, identity, and innovation-inviting global audiences to experience the modern beauty of Hangeul in everyday digital life.
