Samsung Electronics will unveil its three-fold smartphone, tentatively named Galaxy Z Tri-Fold, for the first time at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Gyeongju this October.

By revealing the device on an international stage attended by world leaders, Samsung aims to demonstrate its technological leadership beyond a simple product launch — positioning itself as a global innovator in mobile design and engineering.

From Rumor to Reality: The “Triple-Fold Phone” Emerges

Speculation about Samsung’s tri-fold device had been circulating since just before the company’s September Unpacked event.

Industry watchers and media outlets worldwide reported potential specifications and pricing, fueling public anticipation. With initial shipments expected to reach around 50,000 units and a price range of approximately 4 million KRW (around USD 2,900), the upcoming APEC reveal confirms that the long-rumored device is indeed real.

Redefining Boundaries Between Smartphone and Tablet

The tri-fold model advances from the single-fold structure of the existing Galaxy Z Fold series, adopting a dual infolding “G-shaped” design.

When unfolded: Expands to a 10-inch display, offering a tablet-like multitasking experience.

When folded: Provides a 6.5-inch cover screen for portability.

Specifications: Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, with up to 16GB RAM, 1TB storage, and a 200MP triple camera system.

Samsung plans a limited release in Korea and China, focusing on market response, durability, and UI stability before a wider global rollout.

Samsung’s Strategic Shift: Innovation Through Form Factor Evolution

The tri-fold phone’s debut marks more than just another product launch. It reflects Samsung’s ambition to move beyond the saturated smartphone market and lead a new wave of form factor innovation.

Industry analysts note that this APEC unveiling could serve as a turning point for Samsung to strengthen its dominance in the global foldable device market, reaffirming its role as the pioneer of next-generation mobile experiences.
